Sea-Tac was recently ranked as one of the worst airports to arrive late to in a new study by FinanceBuzz. The study looked at factors such as the amount of time it takes to get through security, the size of the airport and whether or not an airport offers CLEAR service to expedite security lines.

Sea-Tac was ranked the seventh worst for people running late. The airport takes an average 25 minutes and 28 seconds to get through. It also sees an average of over 58,000 departing travelers per day.

"That means if your flight is during peak times, you might find the airport a bit snug as you make your way to your gate," Matt Miczulski wrote in the FinanceBuzz report.

Need to make a flight out of Sea-Tac? These tips can help:

  • Know the light rail schedule: If you're taking light rail to the airport, make sure you know the schedule and allow for ample time to get there.
  • Know where you're parking: If you're planning to drive and park, know the location of the lot where you plan to leave your car. There's the airport lot, sure, but there are several nearby lots that offer a better price. Know where they are and plan some extra time to check your car in and shuttle ot the airport.
  • Check-in before you get to the airport: If you're not checking a bag, you can walk right to security.
  • Sign up for TSA PreCheck and/or CLEAR: These services allow you to bypass the longer general boarding lines for security. Note: Each service costs an annual fee and enrollment process.
  • Know how to get through security: Take your laptop out of your bag and remove your shoes. Keep the line moving smoothly by knowing the security protocol.
  • Make sure you have the appropriate ID: Starting Oct. 1, 2020, passengers will need to meet REAL ID standards even on domestic flights. Know them, and bring the right one.
