Not so in the Seattle metro area, where the average wage was over $50,000 -- and 13.1% of employed people make over $100,000. That's the fifth-highest population of six-figure salary earners among the country's large cities, according to a new study by ecommerce site Volusion , which examined data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the metro areas with the most six-figure salaries in the country.
With a big tech presence in Seattle and on the Eastside (the metro area for this study includes areas east of Lake Washington), this is likely not a huge surprise. Software and applications developers were among the most common six-figure jobs in the region.
Only one other large metro area on Volusion's list can primarily credit tech for its high population of six-figure salary makers: the San Jose metro area, where computer hardware engineers were the most popular high earners. The median salary in San Jose was $60,110, and people making $100,000 or more made up 28.2% of the area's population.
