Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been bumped into the 99 club of the Madden NFL 21 video game, EA sports announced Wednesday.

‘99,’ the highest rating in the video game, is reserved for the select few players deemed the best in the league. It’s the first time Wilson has been placed in the exclusive company in his career.

Wilson learned the news from his teammate DK Metcalf, who surprised him at his house during a recording of his podcast.

The honor comes as the 31-year-old Wilson has been an early frontrunner for the 2020 NFL MVP award, leading the Seahawks to a 5-0 record to start the season for the first time in franchise history. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes (19), touchdown percentage when attempting a pass (11.2) and passer rating (129.8), and ranks third in passing yards  (1.502).

In Week 5 against the Vikings, Wilson led Seattle to a 94-yard game-winning drive in a 1:42 to end the game. It marked his 34th comeback in the fourth quarter or overtime since he entered the NFL in 2012, which tops the league in that span.

Wilson joins Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas and Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore in Madden’s 99 club.

Wilson started the 2020 season with a 97 overall rating in the game, which ranked second among quarterbacks to Mahomes.
