70th Seattle Seafair weekend brings its usual sun, aerobatics and hydro racing

Since 1950, Seattle summers have hinged around one big weekend: Seafair.

Sure, Seafair has many sanctioned events throughout the summer, spanning over a month and featuring festivities all over the city. But the main course has always been the first weekend of August — "Seafair weekend" — complete with planes, sun and fun.

Which is exactly what the first weekend of August brought.

The Blue Angels, of course, made their annual pilgrimage to our fair city, performing death defying stunts and delighting Seafair crowds and boaters.

But that's not the only Seafair activity there is. Each year when the non-profit festival fields some two million people throughout the summer, many of them flow through Genesee Park to see things like the Milk Carton Derby, hydro-racing, vintage boats, and more.
