As an avid traveler myself, I appreciate the art of efficiency and only bring my carry-on luggage with me wherever I go. I realized early on the importance of versatile pieces; those items that can be worn as layers and matched with more than one outfit. With many resorts, hotels and other purveyors now renting out the bulkier equipment, your packing approach can focus on smaller essentials.

So, we've done the work for you ahead of your next ski trip. Here are some suggestions for how to pack light and smart:

Dependable base layers

Base layers like Smartwool’s thermal bottoms are lifesavers on chilly days. Made of 100% merino wool, they feel soft against the skin, providing warmth and breathability.

A water-repellent down jacket

The Wild Down Jacket by outdoor brand Sportiva will keep you warm on the slopes and beyond with its European goose down insulation. The jacket is water repellent and roomy enough for layering. The zippered pockets provide a safe storage option for small essentials.

Sturdy boots

These boots provide comfort with their supportive footbed while offering superb grip. Stain-resistant and waterproof at the top portion of the boot, this is a staple for any cold weather escape.

Leggings for everyone

Bring a legging that can do it all. Honeylove’s Legging 2.0 is a shaping piece and legging all-in-one, with a compression panels to help you feel your best. Wear them on your flight, to fitness classes, or out to dinner. With strategically placed stitching and the softest stretch fabric, these can be dressed up or down. The functional pockets are great for storing your essentials on the go.

Sweater weather

Winter getaways call for sweaters that will not only keep you cozy, but also stylish as well. Stay toasty in this eco-conscious wool Royal Robbins Westlands Relaxed Pullover as you settle in by the fireplace after a day of winter activities. The novelty Fair Isle motif exudes luxe alpine comfort.

Casual kickers

These are the ultimate casual travel sneakers that are great for getting through security fast and efficiently at the airport. The shoe is lightweight, stretchy and easily slides right on. No more shoelaces! The brand launches seasonal colors, so there are an assortment of hues to choose from. The company recently launched its New Year Confetti Capsule Collection, which features fun, multi-colored confetti on bestselling styles.

Slippers for après-ski

Bring your own slippers to the hotel to feel warm and cozy. Easy to pack and transport, these Kyrgies Tengries wool house shoes are not your average slippers: Handmade with felt by craftsmen in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the non-slip soles provide seamless traction and comfort.

Warm wool socks

Socks from Smartwool are a must. The PhD Ski Light Elite Pattern was specifically designed as a skiing sock, with generous cushioning to give maximum comfort. Meant to be worn over the shins, these socks provide durability with their “Indestructawool” properties. The mesh ventilation supports breathability and sweat-wicking management.
