How does Seattle do New Year's? Typically with a display at the Space Needle and a bit of cloud cover, though wind has a chance to cause a fireworks cancellation this year.

It's not that the city isn't filled with a festive bunch -- we can swap wine and party with the best of them -- it's that New Year's is, well, tricky.

Past a certain point it's not quite as much of an excuse to get blotto, or stay up late, or any of the other things you're more naturally inclined to do as a young person. No, now it's about getting home not too long after midnight, and maybe even eagerly looking forward to getting a start on the next year your resolutions.
