Famed Seattle bakery Amandine to close permanently this month

In the midst of restrictions put in place due to the novel coronavirus, beloved Seattle restaurants, bakeries and bars are starting to take a heavy tumble after months of struggling to keep afloat. Now, Seattle’s beloved bakery by the name of Amandine will join the list of those closing for good.

Renowned for all manner of macarons, carambar cookies and nod-worthy cups of Joe, Amandine joins more than 50 longtime Seattle-area restaurants that have shuttered permanently due to the restrictions put in place as a result of the novel coronavirus. As a rainy autumn and winter approaches, it’s uncertain what many restaurants and bars dependent on outdoor dining will do to remain afloat

The cozy Chophouse Row bakeshop will serve out its final sweet treat on Sept. 30 after five years of nod-worthy baked goods which quickly gained fame across the Emerald City.

Founder Sara Naftaly co-owns the neighboring French restaurant, Marmite, with her husband.

“To our dear community: it is with bittersweet emotion that we announce our permanent closure,” an announcement read on the bakery’s Instagram. “To our loyal customers and amazing neighbors, we thank you for allowing us to serve you and serve alongside you. We will truly miss seeing your faces bright and early each morning. Make sure to stop by and grab a pastry and coffee before we part our separate ways!”

Fittingly, an outpour of remorse filled the announcement’s comment section.

“Nooooo! The malt loaf has been the best comfort snack,” one follower wrote, while others reminisced on the bakery’s gluten-free macarons. “Good luck, and if you ever make an extra malt loaf get in touch please.”

The bakery will be sorely missed, alongside many other beloved Seattle restaurants which have struggled to keep business going as restrictions due to the novel coronavirus remain in play.

“This news must be so hard to announce and is certainly hard to hear,” another Amandine follower wrote. “What on earth am I going to do in the mornings without you.”
