New philanthropic brewery in West Seattle: Just in time for guzzling away Valentine's Day blues, The Good Society Brewery and Public House opened their doors on Feb. 14  in West Seattle -- that's right, not Ballard! It's a family friendly joint full of high ceilings, twinkly lights and communal tables, and a portion of every beer you buy goes to charity. A preview from Washington Beer Blog reported that Good Society has a Cascadian Dark Ale (aka American Dark Ale or black IPA) on tap, so get ready to break out of your West Coast IPA comfort zone and try this rarely seen (and seldom mastered) style.

Organic tamales on Capitol Hill: Everett's popular, family-run A&A Cafe and Tamaleria opened it's new spot in Capitol Hill this week: A&A Organic Tamaleria and Cider House. All the tamales at the restaurant are made from scratch from a recipe passed down from one of the owner's great grandmother, and the variety of sweet, savory and even vegan options means everyone can find something they like. As soon as a liquor license is secured, the restaurant plans to pair their handmade tamales with pours from Everett's Soundbite Cider House.

Brand new BBQ on the beach: As if we weren't already dreaming about warm, summer days, Alki Beach welcomed a new barbecue joint this week: the Portland-based It’s BBQ Time in the Kitchen. The menu features all the classics you could want: smoked beef brisket, pulled pork, baby back ribs and pork loin. The restaurant also sells meat by the pound, and has its own smoker going outside to send tantalizing aromas of smoked meats down the beach.

Speaking of tantalizing aromas, two new Korean barbecue joints just opened in Capitol Hill.

Korean BBQ food truck's first outpost: The popular food truck Seoul Bowl opened its first brick-and-mortar location on 12th Avenue. the concept of the restaurant is like a "Korean Chipotle," where you can customize your own white rice-based bowl with choice of protein and unlimited toppings and sauces. But the real star of this joint is their fusion of cheese fries with KBBQ staples: bulgogi kimchi fries.

Meet Korean BBQ in Capitol Hill: But if you're looking for more upscale to get your Korean barbecue fix, check out Meet Korean BBQ on East Pike Street in the bright, naturally-lit corner spot where Trove used to be located. The restaurant offers high end meat such as American wagyu zabuton and kurobuta pork that is cooked on a tabletop grill.

And in other big food news to anticipate:

Salt & Straw moving to the Eastside: Kirkland will soon have its own brick-and-mortar location of the highly-popular Portland-based ice cream shop Salt & Straw, which has plans to open in the Village at Totem Lake in June. But if you Eastsiders can't wait until summer to try the shop's inventive seasonal flavors, their other two locations will be serving scoops from their Chocolatier series all February long.

Anchorhead to open Pike Place location: Big news for downtown workers: no more will you have to trek over the Seventh Avenue past a million Starbucks' stores to get your pistachio matcha latte and warm quaffle (aka a cinnamon roll made from croissant dough and flattened in a waffle iron), because Anchorhead is opening a store in Pike Place in April.

Chinese food hall comes to Westlake: San Francisco's massive Chinese food hall and retail center China Live will be coming to Westlake Avenue in 2021. The owner hopes to highlight local produce from farms, ranchers and fisheries in the market. The San Francisco operation features a dim sum counter, and we can only hope the Seattle location follows.
