After 48 years, Goofy's Bar in Seattle’s Crown Hill neighborhood is closed.

The bar’s last day was Nov. 29. Staff bid farewell to the city in a Facebook post on Thanksgiving.

“Happy Thanksgiving everyone,” they wrote. “We will be closed today but reopen tomorrow for normal business hours. Make sure you pop in and say hi and see the place in its final days as we will be closing the doors for good Monday night!”

According to a design proposal submitted to the city, Goofy's — located at 8519 15th Ave. N.W. — will be torn down to make way for a seven-story apartment complex. The proposal says the new complex will contain 200 residential units.

Vanishing Seattle, a social media account that documents small business closures in the city, said Goofy's had “all the hallmarks of a great unpretentious dive” in a recent post.

“Dim lighting, pool tables, pull tabs, darts, karaoke, TVs for games, old change and breathalyzer machines, well-worn furniture, tasty burgers and wings, and friendly regulars & diverse characters who all seem to know each other,” the account wrote.

Vanishing Seattle said Goofy's “legendary” Friday-night karaoke may continue at Lamplighter, a bar on N.W. 85th Street whose owner also owned Goofy's. The account said Tres’ House of Cheesesteaks, a small business that moved into Goofy's in May, will also move to Lamplighter.

Vanishing Seattle said Goofy's was sold for $1.25 million in 2018. It also said demolition for the new apartment complex will include the destruction of several former businesses, including Bento Sushi, the Crown Hill Pub, Stallions and Centerfolds, and Pizza Hut.

Goofy's, which opened in 1973, is another longtime Seattle business that’s closing this year to make room for an apartment complex. Tum Tip Thai in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood announced it was closing last month after being open for 33 years. The restaurant’s owner, Nat Chien, said the property that housed his business was being torn down to build a new apartment complex.
