Back in mid-September, Seattle’s famed burger hub, Dick’s Drive-In, announced the arrival of its first ever food truck this year. Just a few weeks later, the hyped greasy spoon on wheels declared its first stops for the truck this year. Now, wheels have officially touched down.

While the five finalists for a first bite of Dick’s food truck-style were those of West Seattle, Renton, Bellevue, Everett and Bellingham, ultimately, Seattle’s eastsiders officially earned first dibs.

After 66 years of late-night burgers, shoelace fries and slurp-worthy shakes, local dining celebrity Dick’s Drive-In officially wheeled its food truck into Bellevue’s neck of the woods.

The news came on Friday, dishing out Dick’s Deluxe through lunch until 2 p.m. at the Umpqua Bank at 1000 Bellevue Way. Then Saturday, the truck made a stop in Everett. The two stops come alongside the five finalists, with visits soon to Bellingham, West Seattle and Renton.

According to Dick’s website, the truck will arrive at Renton Technical College Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The truck will also make a pit stop in Newcastle, Washington for a holiday event on Dec. 23.

The Bellevue location was no random selection, given Dick’s originally hosted a location in Bellevue from 1967 to 1974 in the ‘60s until it later closed as the franchise lacked traction on the eastside.

Until now, that is. Dick’s is scoping out the eastside once more, hoping to launch an official outpost in 2021 once it strikes a property to its liking.

For now, Dick’s is en route about the Seattle area.

“When we built our restaurants in Edmonds and Kent, our customers helped us decide where those restaurants should be,” Jasmine Donovan, president of Dick’s Drive-In told KOMO News. “And while it takes over a year to build each new restaurant, with the food truck, we can reach customers all over the Puget Sound region.”
