Washington brewery celebrates nearly 25 years with summer, fall brews
Silver City Brewing began in 1996 under the watchful eye of co-owners Steve and Scott Houmes, and remains a locally-owned and operated business today.
While Silver City Brewery's production facility and brewery taproom is located in Bremerton, their handcrafted beers are available on draft, in 22-ounce bottles, 12-ounce bottle and 12-ounce can 6-packs across Washington State in bars, restaurants, and grocery stores.
In celebration of a summer’s end, an incoming autumn, and nearly 25 years of brews, Silver City Brewing has released a mix of seasonal, year-round and limited-release brews.
And if that’s not enough reason to celebrate, the fact that they won last year’s Mid-Sized Brewery of the Year Award at the Great American Beer Festival certainly is.
The news comes as hop season is upon us, drawing in the produce that brews up aromatic autumn IPAs.
For Silver City Brewing, the summer and fall seasons have yielded four varying bubbles:
The first to nab before the summer’s end is that of the Tropic Haze, a hazy IPA born of a reaction between a specialized yeast strain, oats, wheat, and an experimental hop variety. Throughout August, polish things off with sips of this rich, tropical fruit flavor with a silky texture.
Silver City Brewing is also celebrating a closing summer with the Ziggy Zoggy, a bright and vibrant Zwicklebier (or unfiltered lager) that balances crisp and elegant honey-like malt flavor with assertive, spicy hops.
And as berry picking season also comes to a close, Silver City Brewing is celebrating with the Irresistible Bliss Strawberry Vanilla IPA -- a deliciously dense and decadent hazy IPA that incorporates milk sugar for a sweet and fluffy texture, further enhanced by natural vanilla, and of course, strawberry essence.
For a sneak peak at Silver City’s incoming fall beers, as of late they’ve debuted the Mystic Mojo. An incredibly fluffy hazy IPA utilizing Chinook, Simcoe, and Citra hops, the combination imparts myriad piney and citrus fruit hop aroma and flavor that floats along a malt bill layered in with oat, wheat, and milk sugar.
All in all, Silver City’s lineup embodies the prequel to an incoming hop harvest in Washington between late August and September. Why is this such a big deal for Washington? Because Seattle’s eastern neighbor, Yakima, produces nearly 75% of the nation’s hops.
