Husky football fans will soon be able to toast their team with an alcoholic beverage at home games from multiple venues in the stadium. University of Washington (UW) Athletics announced Wednesday that it will permit wine and beer sales throughout Husky Stadium during the upcoming football season for fans 21 and over.

The stadium formerly sold beer and wine in designated beer gardens and premium seating areas only. With the new allowance, fans can purchase alcohol in general admissions areas. However, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted in Dawg Pack sections where most students sit.

"The introduction of beer and wine throughout Husky Stadium was part of our long-term plan to introduce alcohol sales throughout several of our venues," said Director of Athletics, Jen Cohen in a news release Wednesday. "We have consistently heard feedback from our fans that this amenity would benefit the fan experience on game day and we have carefully monitored the successful rollouts for our diamond sports and at basketball games."

Other Pac-12 teams have rolled out similar policies due to lower revenues brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The University of Southern California announced earlier this month that it would permit alcoholic beverage sales in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The University of California Los Angeles also announced similar policies for the Rose Bowl Stadium, saying ti would enhance the fan experience.

Beyond alcohol sales, the university will be moving to fully digital tickets this season which must be downloaded on a mobile device for entry. Additionally, concessions will be moving to a card-only model "to reduce wait times and get you back to your seats faster," according to the school.

Parking will also be cash-free, and fans will have to download the PayByPhone app to purchase parking in lots on central and west campus. The water taxi in Husky Harbor will also be moving to a cashless model.

Like other UW venues, this season Husky Stadium will adopt a no reentry policy and clear bag policy for safety.
