University of Washington named 8th best university in the world
Excellence in subjects like infectious diseases and immunology propelled the school to the top
UW ranked 5th in geosciences; 6th in microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases and clinical medicine; 7th in social sciences and public health; 8th in microbiology, pharmacology and toxicology; and 9th in computer sciences, contributing talent to Seattle's booming tech industry.
