I love furry animals. Seriously, is there anything better than cuddling a puppy? Or winning the vibrating approval of a cat? I’ll snuggle up with any furry creature that will have me; I’ll pet a pelt, caress a coat, and run my fingers through a shaggy hide any day of the week. Truth be told, if rabies wasn’t a concern I’d go full Elmyra on every raccoon, possum, and squirrel I met.

While I love furry creatures, I don’t love their fur when it’s covering my clothes or making lint-filled tumbleweeds of dander across the floor.  So when I saw this pet hair remover going viral on TikTok, I had to try it out.

I ordered the ChomChom on Amazon and it arrived within three days. Then I ran into a problem: I don’t currently have any pets. Luckily, my dad and stepmom do. They are the doting parents of a 14-year-old chihuahua named Lucky, an attention-demanding cuddle bug, who molts a haystack of orange-and-grey pin hairs after every scritch session.

For a small critter, Lucky sheds a surprising amount of hair.

What is the ChomChom Pet Hair Remover?

The ChomChom is a reusable lint brush that grabs onto fur without the need for messy rolls of sticky tape like traditional brushes. The handheld tool is designed to glide over a hair-covered surface like a mini vacuum, trapping loose fur in its easy-to-clean receptacle.

Per the manufacturer, the ChomChom “works like a charm on furniture, upholstery, and anything riddled with fur.”

ChomChom Pet Hair Remover review

I found Lucky curled up in his bed, and while he was not exactly thrilled to be roused from his nap, I promised to make it worth his while. It’s a tough life, being a pampered little dog. I set him in my lap and got down to some Grade-A petting.

After about 5-10 minutes of scritching, I released Lucky back to his bed, and my lap looked like this:

We’ve all been here. In the past, I’ve tried a lot of different tricks to get pet hair off my clothes. Those rolls of sticky lint-removing paper are so annoying to work with; they’re never sticky enough, and I’m always scrabbling to find the edge I can peel to reveal a fresh layer underneath. I’d honestly prefer to just blot myself with pieces of packing tape.

But on this day, I had the ChomChom.

I decided to use it on only one side of my body, to best compare.

Y’all. I was INSTANTLY impressed. This thing works!  Look at the difference between the left and right!! That took about 15 seconds to achieve! And it was SO satisfying!

I was addicted. I needed more.

Our neighbors have a seven-month-old Springer Spaniel with long fluffy hair that rains down like tufts of white cotton candy. With their permission, I asked if I could run the ChomChom over the bed in their guest room.

To the naked eye, the bed looked clean enough, as you can see in the photo. However, after just five seconds of quick rubbing back and forth with the ChomChom, I opened the lint chamber to reveal a huge mess of previously-unseen hair had been collected.

A few swipes of the ChomChom revealed hidden pet hair all over the bed.

I give this product a major thumbs up, and then four paws up to go with it. It works.

Are there any downsides to the ChomChom pet hair remover?

While the ChomChom pet hair remover is a game-changing tool, there are a few things to note while using it:

1. Technique is important. The underside of the ChomChom has a red material similar to velvet that catches the hair, and a rubber blade that then pushes the hair into the chamber. You must rub the roller back and forth in and up and down motion for it to work. It isn’t a squeegee — you can’t simply pull the ChomChom towards you indefinitely in a long, drawn-out motion. You pull it towards you, then hear the rubber blade click against the chamber, which means it’s time to push it in the opposite direction until the blade clicks again. According to the manufacturer, it utilizes static electricity to attract your pet’s hair, and the movement is crucial for creating the charge.

2. It’s kind of loud. Effective use of the ChomChom results in a lot of click-clacking of the rubber blade back and forth. But it’s definitely quieter than a vacuum cleaner, so I think a little clacking is a small price to pay considering how effective it is.

3. The release button that opens the hair chamber is located exactly where it’s most comfortable to hold your thumb. This can result in the chamber accidentally popping open while you’re using the ChomChom, which can get a little annoying until you get used to it. Again, considering how well it works and the price point, it’s not a deal breaker for me.

Is the ChomChom Pet Hair Remover worth it?

This device is 100% reusable, with no need for sticky adhesives or paper — so it’ll pay for itself quickly with the money you’ll save on refills. It requires no batteries and no power source, and is easy to empty and clean. The fur chamber fills up pretty fast, so you may find yourself emptying it a bit more than you’d like, but that just shows it’s working.

So if you’re looking to combat the constant snowfall that is your fur baby’s outer layer and keep your home and clothes clean and allergen-free (or if you’re a crafty, DIY type, who wants to make a finger puppet out of your cat’s furballs, or maybe knit a sweater out of your dog’s hair) then the ChomChom is perfect for you.
