The question: What are the most popular car colors for Seattleites? The answer comes courtesy a new iSeeCars.com report. After black and white, the next two most popular colors remained in the grayscale spectrum.

“Consumers may prefer grayscale colored cars from a practicality standpoint since they are colors they are less likely to tire of,” iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly said in the report.

To get its list of most popular car colors, iSeeCars examined over 9.4 million vehicles and noted their colors. Overall, white was the most popular color nationwide, edging out black by less than one percentage point.

But there are some downsides to buying a car in grayscale.

“Less popular car colors tend to depreciate less because they are more scarce in the used car marketplace, while grayscale colors depreciate close to average,” said Ly. So a brightly colored vehicle may resell for more than your typical silver or white car.

In Washington, only 22.6% of all vehicles are non-grayscale. The state with the most colorful cars is Vermont with 30% of vehicles, while the fewest colorful cars can be found in Hawaii with 17.1%.
