Seattle’s Chihuly Garden and Glass opens outdoor pizza oven

As Seattle museums reopen under limited capacity according to Washington's "Safe Start" plan, many are adjusting their guidelines and regulations to safely host guests. Some museums install hand sanitizer machines while others label the floors with social distancing tips. Some, on the other hand, are installing outdoor pizza ovens.

Seattle's beloved Chihuly Garden and Glass has official reopened its doors for all things kaleidoscopic handcrafted glass sculptures, and now, for Neapolitan-style pizza, too.

For the first time, the Chihuly team has unveiled the ultimate secret pizza garden - a garden we didn't even know we needed until aromas of basil and bubbling pizzas encompassed the surrounding streets.

After installing a Woodstone pizza oven in their outdoor art plaza, any visitor can peruse the renowned glass installations and observe classic live demos all while noshing on decadent slices showered in heirloom tomatoes and copious amounts of shredded buffalo mozzarella. Though it’s uncertain how long the attraction’s beloved oven will continue slinging slices, rumor has it could remain into autumn. Alongside cheesy slices and Chihuly glass, the attraction has partnered with the Seattle Center to dish out screenprinted face coverings in support of the Vera Project.

The pop-up on the Seattle Monorail platform features local artists from The Vera Project, screenprinting their designs on masks in front of visitors who can take the personalized products home for $10. All proceeds will benefit the Vera Project’s support of non-profit youth arts and community spaces disproportionately impacted by the novel coronavirus. Those interested can swing by the Seattle Monorail platform at Seattle Center Sept. 5-6 from noon-3 p.m. Currently, Chihuly Garden and Glass remains open daily, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
