The Golden State Warriors handed the Boston Celtics their first back-to-back losses of the 2022 playoffs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday with a 104 – 94 home victory, thanks to a herculean effort from Andrew Wiggins. You read that right. Wiggins, not Steph Curry, led the charge on Monday with 26 points. In fact, Game 5 was the first playoff game in Steph’s illustrious career that he didn’t make a 3-pointer, going 0-9 from behind the arc and finishing with just 16 points.

The Warriors winning with Steph shooting just 9-22 from the field and the team as a whole going 9-40 (22.5%) from deep is a bad sign for the Celtics. Behind solid performances from Wiggins, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, Gary Payton II, and even Draymond Green, Steph’s 16 points were more than enough for a double-digit win.

For the first time in this series, Celtics star Jayson Tatum led all scorers, putting up 27 points. He got help from Marcus Smart (20 points) and Jaylen Brown (18 points), but none of the Celtics' role players came along. The C’s shot better from 3 (34.4%) and out-rebounded the Warriors 47-39, but the Dubs forced 18 turnovers and dominated points in the paint 50-36. The Celtics just couldn’t keep up in the 4th.

NBA Finals Game 6: Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors

  • When: Thursday, June 16, 6:00 p.m. PST
  • Where: TD Garden (Boston)
  • TV: ABC (streaming with Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV)
  • Radio: 95.7 The Game (San Francisco), 98.5 The Sports Hub (Boston)

This might be the last game of the series, but ticket prices have actually gone down since Tuesday. As of Thursday morning, the cheapest tickets for Game 6 of the NBA Finals are on Ticketmaster at around $660 each to sit in 300-section seats (the upper bowl). First thing Tuesay, those same tickets were going for around $800. You can also find tickets on Stubhub for most of the other balcony sections for under $700 as of Thursday, whereas they were selling for $50 to $75 more Tuesday.

Even though this is a closeout game, courtside tickets to sit next to the players are much cheaper than they were for Game 5 at Chase Center. A pair of front row seats in Section VIP12, Row A will set you back around $30,000 after fees — that's about half of what they were selling for Tuesday. Compared to the $120,000+ it cost to sit courtside in Game 5, you’re saving almost $60,000 by going to Boston instead of SF.

This all assumes you have $30,000 to play with. If you do, well, congratulations on being wealthy.

What to watch for in Celtics vs. Warriors Game 6

The Splash Brothers can smell blood and are looking to close out the series. After going 0-9 from behind the arc, Curry is due for an explosive bounce-back game. He'd made a 3-pointer in 233 consecutive games, and 133 consecutive playoff games. If he bounces back, he'll lock up another title and likely win Finals MVP. At the same time, it’s Game 6, and Warriors fans know that means Game 6 Klay is lurking. Look for Curry and Thompson to combine for 60 points and lead the charge.

As for the Celtics, they need to stop turning the ball over. They had 12 more turnovers than the Warriors, which directly contributed to the double-digit loss. That said, the Celts finally adjusted their defense on Curry and started blitzing and trapping him, and look at what happened. Watch for them to repeat this game plan and force someone else to beat them.
