Bennett and Macklemore are teaming up with Jesse Hagopian, a local activist and teacher at Garfield High School, to make sure copies of the book "Teaching for Black Lives" makes its way into the hands of educators around the city.
"Teaching for Black Lives," which was edited by Hagopian along with Dr. Dyan Watson and Dr. Wayne Au, explores how school curriculum teaches lessons of Black history and identity. It's described as a "handbook for creating the sweeping reform of our education system and equitable teaching strategies for Black students."
It's a book that Bennett said is one "I wished I had coming up in school but it never existed."

"Now we have the opportunity to educate thousands of youth about the Black history that was too often missing from my schooling—from the building of the White House, to the role of Black youth in social movements, to organizing for restorative justice today," he said in a statement.
The team is hoping the distribute the book to middle and high schoolers in the Seattle Public School system. They'll be giving them to language arts and social studies teachers for those grades.
