"We are aware that violent crime is trending up. We will be adding deputies for increased emphasis patrols targeting crimes of violence," Sheriff Mitzi G. Johanknecht said in an emailed news release. "The patrols will be random and at different times of the day to increase visibility in areas where violent crime is likely to occur."

No one died in either shooting, though the first did result in injuries.

The first shooting was reported early Sunday morning. At 5:30 a.m., someone reported to 911 operators that they heard gunshots in the area of Southwest Roxbury and 17th Avenue Southwest.

An officer responded, but did not find anything initially. Then, at 6:13 a.m., three men, ages 28, 29 and 30, arrived at Harborview Medical Center with gunshot wounds. The 30-year-old remained in critical condition Monday afternoon and the 29-year-old was in serious condition. The 28-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and released Sunday.

Before 7 a.m., investigators determined the shooting occurred in the 9800 block of 17th Avenue Southwest, where "numerous" shell casings were found, KCSO said in its release.

The investigation was ongoing Monday.

Then, early Monday morning, a 27-year-old man called 911 to report he had been shot at his house, located in the 10600 block of First Avenue Southwest. Medics treated him for a gunshot wound on his shoulder at the scene before transporting him to Harborview. He was listed as being in serious condition.

The victim told investigators he knows the suspect, but was not cooperative with deputies, KCSO said in its release.

"At this time it is unknown what led up to the shooting, but this case remains under investigation," Sgt. Ryan Abbott said.

As of Monday, there was no indication that the two incidents were related to one another or to gang activity.
