HOKA

The most recent evidence of how far HOKA has expanded beyond its running circle roots: The shoe brand has just dropped a sneaker designed for urban explorers.

Aptly named the Transport, the brand-new shoe is “designed with the city dweller in mind,” according to product specs. It’s the ideal footwear for in-town exploration while pulling double duty as a made-for-sport sneaker — meaning it’s an excellent choice for those who want to, say, squeeze in a workout during lunch or perhaps run home after a long day at the office.

The Transport is a cinch to slip on, with a quick-toggle lace (no tying necessary) and a reflective outsole made with Vibram materials — the very same brand whose wacky-looking FiveFingers shoe helped launch the barefoot running craze of yesteryear. But you won’t get any sideways glances wearing the Transport, which is now available in several color options for men and women. A heads-up if you’re hoping to grab a pair of the ever-popular eggnog shade, which is only available in women’s sizes: These neutral beauties sell out blisteringly fast (thanks, TikTok), so get your game face on and your “buy now” finger ready.

With their cushy heel, solid arch support, and lightweight, pep-in-your-step feel, HOKA sneakers first gained traction among running circles, including many long-distance and professional athletes, before catching fire among more casual wearers. And if the brand keeps launching products like the Transport, HOKA will surely further cement its cult status in the post-pandemic fashion landscape, as athleisure continues its evolution from passing trend to the new normal.
