On Thursday, burger fans will find a pop-up apparel shop, open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a DJ playing rock music. The day's events will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, performances from the Sammamish High School band and cheer team and speeches from VIPs like Dick's Drive-In President Jasmine Donovan.

The eighth location of the celebrated mid-century-themed drive-in restaurant has been in the works for some time. The announcement of the new Bellevue location was made in February of 2021, the same winter Dick's debuted its food truck, which brought burgers to hungry Eastsiders this past summer.

Dick's Drive-In recently announced an increase in its minimum wage for workers. The change came on Sept. 27 when the starting wage moved up to $19 per hour. Once a worker passes their first skills test, they can earn $20 per hour. The highest wage currently available to a Dick's Drive-In employee is $21.75.

Starting this week, the Dick's location on Capitol Hill will close for remodeling. The restaurant will close on Dec. 13 and doesn't plan to reopen until the spring. All employees at this location are being transferred to other stores.

Dick's Drive-In was founded in Seattle in 1954. The chain's first location, in Wallingford, began the Seattle tradition of a limited, simple menu of quality burgers, fries and milkshakes.
