Our team is constantly testing and reviewing the best carry-on luggage out there, from brands that range from July to Away. Consider this your one-stop shop for our honest feedback, comparative analysis, and tried-and-true recommendations.

These are some of our favorite carry-ons:

Away carry-on luggage review

Managing editor Ana Luisa Suarez put Away’s Carry-On to the test on three different airlines (and a total of five planes) to see if it was legit. Spoiler alert: If you’re into aesthetics and fun colors, these bags are “some of the best” to use.

Pros: Lightweight, easy to spot, and perfect for organization and compression

Cons: Inflated cost due to popularity

Gregory Quadro Pro Hardcase luggage review

After six years of steady use, freelance writer Jean Chen Smith swapped an Away carry-on for the Gregory Quadro Pro Hardcase 22, a much less expensive option that is sized right between Away’s Carry-On and Bigger Carry-On. The final results? “Given the attractive price, I’d say if you are in search of new luggage, the Quadro Pro should be at the front of the line,” Jean writes.

Pros: Scratch-resistant exterior and removable ActiveShield compartment for dirty clothes

Cons: Not as many color options

July carry-on luggage review

These Away look-alikes are also popular among trendy travelers. And while our managing editor doesn’t self-identify as a hip millennial, Ana did test out the July Carry-On and has dubbed it the “most lightweight carry-on suitcase I own.”

Pros: Built-in USB charger, sleek and customizable, and easy to use and organize

Cons: Expensive

ROAM carry-on luggage review

ROAM is a unique kind of luggage brand in that it allows you to completely customize your own suitcase, from the colors of the front and back shells to the zipper and wheels. Freelance writer Lesley Chen went through the entire process to craft a one-of-a-kind Carry-On Expandable. The result is a reliable, lightweight carry-on that's completely tailored to your design aesthetic.

Pros: Lots of customization possibilities, expandable option, and four handle heights
Cons: Longer ordering process and price
